Pose of a Child

The pose of a child is a forward bend, and forward bends are poses of surrender and letting go. We surrender to “what is”. This is not about giving up, but giving in, going with the flow, not trying to steer or “make” anything happen. Begin on all fours as you did for the cat/cow sequence. Gently glide your torso backward to rest your buttocks on your heels. You may spread your knees apart, as wide as the mat if you wish, to make more room for your torso to relax into the mat completely. You may wish to stretch your arms out in front of you (extended child pose) or gently bring your hands to rest at your heels. Invite long smooth gentle breaths. Feel your entire torso expanding with each breath. This is a restful pose. Remain here as long as you wish.
